The Truth About Mastered Ultra Instinct Explained In Dragon Ball Super

There has been a lot of information and many good discussion videos out there on Ultra Instinct. Now, there are a lot of theories and ideas on how it works. I am going to do a very different take on Ultra Instinct

Ultra Instinct (“Key of Egoism”) is a very rare and highly advanced mental state. It is popular among the gods for being exceptionally difficult to master, even for them. Till date, no God of Destruction has perfectly managed to master Ultra Instinct. The only people known of using Ultra Instinct right now are the Angels, Beerus and Goku.

Goku attains a transformation that enables him to utilize the defensive aspect of Ultra Instinct during the Tournament of Power,he later completes it, gaining its offensive properties and full power.Even though Goku does attain true mind and body separation to master Ultra Instinct, he still has a long way to go. That is if he ever wants to truly challenge the strongest fighters in the multi-verse. Beerus has also used Ultra Instinct quite a few times both in anime and manga. He still hasn’t perfected it but he can use a bit of it.

Users can automatically react to any threat without the need to acknowledge it and Dodge the attack. Their body can also adapt while in battle on its own. However, this ability is not an absolute guarantee against harm to one’s being as shown in the anime when Goku managed to bite Whis to escape his hold, possibly due to it being such an obscure attack method.

Additionally, it does not make one completely aware of their surroundings to the point that they can avoid specific hazards, even relatively harmless ones, which is exemplified humorously by Whis when he steps in poop while explaining the technique to Goku and Vegeta. According to Whis, while dodging and moving is easy to master, attacking while in Ultra Instinct is difficult.

Apparently, for mortals there is one risk of using Ultra Instinct. Similar to the reckless over-usage of Kaio-ken, the user can only sustain the sheer power of the form for only a minute or so before their body breaks down from pushing so far beyond their natural limits. This technique is suitable for people with divine bodies only.

That’s why Beerus isn’t clad in that whole heat / blue aura like Goku is when he unconsciously uses Ultra Instinct. With the status of a God of Destruction and having a divine body, there is no side effect of using Mastered Ultra Instinct. Goku didn’t suffer such a huge side effect before because he was only able to use Ultra Instinct for defensive maneuver.

The time limit ending is shown from blood rupturing from the user’s body as well as dark ki electrical shocks that will cause them severe pain and eventually force them into unconsciousness. We saw this in the latest Dragon Ball Super episode 130. In more severe cases, Whis noted it could potentially kill the user.

We are thankful that Goku didn’t die from using Mastered Ultra Instinct. Currently, Goku is the only known mortal to achieve and master the use of Ultra Instinct, even if he uses it as a transformation. This technique closely resembles the real-life martial art concept of Mushin, a mental state that highly trained martial artists are said to be capable of entering during combat.

Now, I want to take this time and thank everyone. I hope you guys enjoy this in-depth perspective of Ultra Instinct and what it means to master it.
